Community Garden/ Local Produce
Amanda has met with the Town Council, EHDC and HCC to explore the availability of land in Council ownership. It was accepted that the Water Meadows by Tesco had too many potential risks to be underwritten by EHDC so other possible sites were discussed. The land discussed was either not suitable or was met with local resistance.
Greening Petersfield has decided to put aside the search for a growing area and to focus on the promotion of local produce. It was agreed that this met the ‘community mandate’ of Petersfield Tomorrow. Two costed recipes featuring root vegetables and Game will be featured at the March Farmers’ Market.
Liz Jackson EHDC has confirmed that there is an opportunity to have a stall at the regular Markets.
The Hidden Britain Group have proposed an event to mark the 1st day of the South Downs National Park and a provisional booking has been made for The Square from 1100 to 1600 on 1st April. The event will focus on activities for young people and is likely to involve a large map of the Park that people can interact with. Work has started on gaining the interest and involvement of various groups and bodies in this event.
The Virtual Tour (VT) incorporated into the Visit Petersfield website www.visitpetersfield.com is now free of the constraints on hotspots, both community and commercial, and this is evidenced by recent activity.
The What’s On page is proving very popular with local groups. The Search Engine Optimization activity is delivering good results and will continue – it is proven that the site design meets the needs of the search engine industry.
Graham Steaggles detailed the work done to date and the aspirations for this newly constituted Group. The main task at the outset is to support and influence the Town Access Plan soon to be started by HCC. It is the intention to consider the implications of the ‘movement’ recommendations in the Town Design Statement, to consider streets and highways and the impact of the SDNP.
The Group will table a report on its activities and intentions as soon as practicable.
Date of next meeting
